The automobile is a technical marvel in all aspects, from propulsion to interior amenities to driver and passenger connectivity. But it can be daunting when evaluating a new vehicle for purchase. That is why the Portland International Auto Show (PIAS) has created specialized displays that will inform and educate on new tech in an interactive setting that will leave consumers confident as they explore the latest cars and trucks on the show floor. Those advanced technologies will be on display at the PIAS, Thurs., Jan. 26 – Sun., Jan. 29 at the Oregon Convention Center.
Leading the way is the Tech Center. Inaugurated last year, the Tech Center provides an overview of many new technologies offered by manufacturers. Consumers can learn the latest about connected cars, electric vehicles (EV) and various road usage apps, with downloads and live demos. IMS will also showcase its connectivity and road usage app. Columbia Clean Cities Coalition will be on hand to discuss the latest EVs and the development of the Green Highway initiative. And Solar City will demonstrate the association of solar technology compatible with automotive technology.
Early acceptance of EVs has placed Oregon center stage as this technology takes root across the U.S. Oregon was one of eight states to enter into an agreement to promote EVs with the goal of getting 3.3 million on the road by 2025. In response, the PIAS has established Electric Avenue as its latest feature providing information on all aspects of EVs in an interactive setting. Innovations in charging stations, the use of clean energy for EV charging, the wide variety of EVs available, the new EV range reality, and savings and incentives are some of the topics that will be presented by experts during the show. Attendees can also get a charge from kiosks in Electric Avenue and throughout the show courtesy of Electricity is the Clean Fuel.
Oregon Electric Vehicle Association (OEVA)
The OEVA is a new partner of the PIAS that will provide an entertaining way to explore and experience the wide variety of EVs available. Attendees can view EVs from many of the leading manufacturers, including BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Chevrolet (including the Bolt), Smart, Fiat, Volkswagen, Ford and others. OEVA will staff the exhibit, located in the EV Showcase within the Tech Center, with EV owners and experts to answer questions about the benefits of EV ownership and specific models on display. They will also present information on conversion of standard vehicles to EV, as exemplified by the famous White Zombie, purported to be the fastest EV in Oregon. A drawing will also be held with the winner receiving $5,000 toward a down payment on an EV.
